Students must choose a 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rdÌý³¦³ó´Ç¾±³¦±ð.

Students in Year 8 are given the opportunity to personalise elements of the curriculum. Students will be given the opportunity to select another option subject at the end of Year 9 to study in Years 10 and 11. These subjects are likely to form some of those options available for students to select.

When students were in Year 8 they had the opportunity to personalise elements of their curriculum. This included selecting an Option A subject which included Art, Performing Arts and Music. In order to ensure that students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, a wide range of different options are available to study in Years 10 and 11.

If a student chooses Art, for example, as their Option A, they will not study this as part of the carousel. We want to ensure that students have a broad and as varied a curriculum offer as possible.

The carousel is a part of the žžÊÓƵ Academy Halifax curriculum that we are proud of. It enables all Year 9 students to choose two creative subjects, in addition to their Option A, to study and enjoy. The focus of each carousel subject is develop the skills and knowledge learned in Years 7 and 8, but also promote enjoyment and engagement.

All students will complete one term, as part of the carousel, of Personal Development in Year 9. Personal Development is a 12-week programme in which students will develop a holistic view of health and wellbeing, complete activities to support žžÊÓƵ Challenge and work towards Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Students will not work towards a qualification in Core PE lessons. Core PE is part of the curriculum in all year groups. Students will have one lesson per week of PE in Years 9, 10 and 11.

Students in Nurture will be contacted by the SEN team to provide further support to guide them through the options process.

It is a government requirement that schools ensure as many students as possible complete the full EBACC which includes English, maths, science, history or geography and MFL.

Studying modern foreign languages provides students with a wealth of opportunities both academically and culturally. Students who study a modern foreign language are more likely to be higher earners in the future. As an academy, we are committed to opening doors for our students. The promotion of an academic curriculum forms part of this vision.

Please refer to the Year 9 IAG booklet. This outlines the curriculum your child will follow. This will differ depending on which band they are in. Option A is the subject option students started in Year 9 and they will complete this at the end of Year 10. Option B are subjects students will pick as part of the current options process and will be studied in Years 10 and 11.
