Co-Curricular and Enrichment

Educational Visits

As an academy we are dedicated to ensuring our students have a diverse range of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. We aim to develop our  students so they are dedicated to their education and are proud of the opportunities and achievement they have accomplished.

Each term, students will have the opportunity to take part in an educational visit to a place of interest which complements the students’ studies. These include a diverse selection of trips from the Halifax literacy festival in Year 9, a weekend in Whitby with the Performing Arts team as part of the preparations for the school show and the ‘Battlefields trip’ to France with the Humanities team.

In addition, the academy is a regular host to guest speakers to support both students’ academic development, enhance their cultural capital and their understanding of the wider world. These include the ‘Operational live team’, as featured on Dragon’s den, exploring human anatomy and physiology, The ‘National Enterprise challenge’ – the UK’s largest enterprise competition. This aims to provide students a true insight into real life business, brand development and business strategy.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Education outside of the classroom is integral to the žžƵ experience and all Phase 1 students will take part in a minimum of one extra-curricular graduation club each week. Dedicated attendance at this club will form an integral part of the Phase 1 graduation process.

In addition to the ‘graduation’ involve clubs, students are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sporting activities, music, drama and dance classes, handwriting clubs, STEM club and media clubs. We also offer students the opportunity to work with our staff on local community projects to support local charities and community groups. These include the Forget me not Trust and Overgate hospice, The Halifax food bank and The Mayfield Trust.

In Year 10 and 11, students also have access to the ‘Achieve’ provision to support with dedicated revision, organisation and preparation for examinations and aid students in their completion coursework. Students are invited in small groups each week by subject staff to this provision.
